Buying and running a Franchise business

Many people who want to start a business opt for the Franchise route. The theory is you'll have a better shot at success duplicating an existing business model in a new area. You get a marketing plan, operations plan and usually a really neat sign. Does it work? Well it depends on your definition of success. The bottom line is that far too often you end up buying a job for yourself. In the end you still have most of the same headaches and challenges as if you'd started your own business.

Which Franchise is right for you?
This of course depends on what kind of business you want to be in. I can tell you this, most of the lists of fastest selling franchises don't really have much to do with how successful they are. The magazines are just listing which franchises sold the most new stores. Hey at one time Yugos were pretty good selling cars. That didn't make them good cars.

Something to consider
Instead of starting a franchise you might want to consider buying an existing franchise. The businesses are usually up and running and can be purchased for less than starting your own.
