Oregon Business License

Information for starting and conducting a business in the state of Oregon. Includes business license information at the state, county, and city level. The main web site is Oregon.gov and it's a bit cluttered to say the least. We'll walk you through the process as best we can to make life a little easier. There is a 48 page pdf file on the site that you can read through if you're so inclined. For general license and business license information you can try to navigate the license site on your own. But if you want guidance, and to save a lot of time, follow the links below.

The first step is determining if the name of your business has already been registered in Oregon. You can check that at the Oregon Business name search page.

After you've decided on a name for your business you can use the Oregon business registration wizard four here. This is fairly easy to use and resulted in a page of 21 links to help guide us along the process. We used a location of Oregon City and the business was a janitorial business and type of business was an LLC or Limited liability corporation. Before you start the wizard you should decide the type of business, sole proprietory, General partnership, corporation, etc.

If you're going to have employees you should visit the State of Oregon Bureau of labor and industries website. This will give you information on the state minimum wage (It's $7.80 an hour as of 2007) and other wage and labor regulation information.

As with most case cities and counties within Oregon have their own business license requirements. You can usually find these by visiting the auditors office of the specific city or the county administrative website.

Selected Oregon Cities chambers of commerce.
Portland Oregon Chamber of Commerce
Deep and well done site that includes a business directory. The Chamber represents more than 350,000 businesses and people in the Portland area. Probably a great place to start building those relationships.
